About us

Touching the heart
Newton Choral Society is dedicated to creating musical performances that delight and touch the heart of both audience and performers alike by bringing to life the expressive power and intent of the composer.  We will not have done our job if you leave an NCS concert unmoved.

Downtown quality and suburban convenience
Now in its 34th season, its 30th under the inspiring musicianship and committed leadership of Music Director David Carrier, NCS has developed its reputation as one of the finest choruses in the Boston area.   We aim to offer performances that marry “downtown quality” musicianship with suburban convenience (affordable ticket prices and easy parking).

Repertoire
Newton Choral Society presents both beloved masterpieces and new works we frequently commission.   We have taken on challenging works that non-professional groups rarely tackle, such as Poulenc’s Mass in G and Milhaud’s Psaumes.   We believe in growing and stretching musically, and we think it’s fun.

Collaborations
NCS takes pride in its frequent collaborations with prestigious soloists and orchestras.  We have performed with the Boston Philharmonic and the New Philharmonia in past years.  During the 2009-2010 season we were invited to perform with the Boston Civic Symphony and shared the stage at Saunder’s Theatre with the Zamir Chorale in March 2009. Recently, NCS has sung at Symphony Hall in Boston, and Carnegie Hall in New York.

Membership
While our name pays tribute to our distinguished city of origin, the Newton Choral Society attracts singers from around the greater Boston metropolitan area.  Nearly three-quarters of the current members of NCS reside outside of Newton.  NCS members are extraordinarily dedicated to the group and volunteer actively to take on the many duties that keep the chorus growing and thriving.
