The mission of the Newton Choral Society is to perform a varied and challenging repertoire of the finest classical music from all periods and from a wide cross-section of composers. We aspire to perform these works at the highest possible level of personal and collective musicianship.
The fellowship of a cohesive community of singers, each of whom:
Takes individual responsibility for maintaining high personal standards of musicianship.
Devotes as much time to personal practice as is necessary to keep up with the pace of rehearsals.
Participates actively and enthusiastically in rehearsals, concerts and other organization events.
Shows respect for and supports the musical director and all other singers in the chorus.
The guidance and leadership of a professional musical director who creates an environment in which each singer’s knowledge of music history, theory and vocal technique is continually enhanced.
Each singer’s ability to maintain vocal and musical standards, as assessed through regular reauditions and observations by the musical director.
The ability to delight our audiences by meeting or exceeding their expectations for high energy, high quality performances.
Support for local composers by commissioning new choral music.
Support for aspiring young singers’ musical education and development.
Service to the greater Newton area through outreach programs and participation in community events.
